As a dedicated physics and math tutor, Meg has years of experience helping students overcome academic challenges and master difficult concepts in physics and math.
Meg's astronomy passion began under Brainerd, MN's dark skies. She pursued astrophysics and physics at the University of Minnesota, driven by her desire to study the cosmos. As a 4th generation educator, Meg proudly follows her great-grandmother's path, combining her love for space with teaching.
Our tutoring philosophy revolves around student conceptual growth and confidence. We understand the process of knowledge development and the importance of feedback throughout a student’s learning journey.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meg recognized that students needed compassionate, personalized, and student-focused education. As a way to reach students during these challenging times, Meg started The Modern Physics Tutor and began remote tutoring in the fall of 2020. Since then, The Modern Physics Tutor has helped hundreds of students reach their academic goals through personalized support and thoughtful instruction.
After moving from Hawaii to Colorado in 2020 and completing a paper in physics education research, Meg decided to begin tutoring before returning to graduate school.
As an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, Meg studied supernovae and gamma ray bursts (GRBs) with Associate Professor Patrick Kelly. As an undergraduate, she was also a teaching assistant (TA) for Introduction to Astrophysics and one of her favorite classes was History of 20th Century Physics.
As a graduate student at the University of Hawaii, Meg instructed a physics laboratory course in electricity and magnetism for five semesters. During that time she conducted studies in the field of physics education research, determined to find effective methods for building confidence and improving learning outcomes for students in physics. You can find the paper she wrote here (linked: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2301.02699).
