Charting My Path to Academic Excellence

The Creation of The Modern Physics Tutor

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meg recognized that students needed compassionate, personalized, and student-focused education. As a way to reach students during these challenging times, Meg started The Modern Physics Tutor and began remote tutoring in the fall of 2020. Since then, The Modern Physics Tutor has helped hundreds of students reach their academic goals through personalized support and thoughtful instruction.

Meg's Journey to TMPT

After moving from Hawaii to Colorado in 2020 and completing a paper in physics education research, Meg decided to begin tutoring before returning to graduate school.

2015-2019

University of Minnesota

As an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, Meg studied supernovae and gamma ray bursts (GRBs) with Associate Professor Patrick Kelly. As an undergraduate, she was also a teaching assistant (TA) for Introduction to Astrophysics and one of her favorite classes was History of 20th Century Physics.

2019-2020

University of Hawaii

As a graduate student at the University of Hawaii, Meg instructed a physics laboratory course in electricity and magnetism for five semesters. During that time she conducted studies in the field of physics education research, determined to find effective methods for building confidence and improving learning outcomes for students in physics. You can find the paper she wrote here (linked: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2301.02699).

The Modern Physics Tutor Is Born

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meg recognized that students needed compassionate, personalized, and student-focused education. Something most students couldn't get, for various reasons. As a way to reach students during these challenging times, Meg started The Modern Physics Tutor and began remote tutoring in the fall of 2020. Since then The Modern Physics Tutor has helped hundreds of students reach their academic goals through personalized support and thoughtful instruction.

Meet Our Tutors

Our Team Philosophy

I’ve always believed that confidence is the most important thing a student can gain from tutoring. It’s not just about getting through homework—it’s about helping students feel like they can do the work, like they belong in their math or science class, and like they have someone in their corner who truly believes in them. That’s the heart of our approach at The Modern Physics Tutor. Everyone on this team shares that same commitment: we’re here to support students, to listen, to explain things in ways that actually make sense, and to celebrate every win along the way (big or small). We know that each student is different, so we always personalize our sessions based on their pace, their goals, and what they’re working on in class. But no matter where they’re starting from, our goal is the same—to help students feel more confident, more capable, and more in control of their learning. I feel so lucky to work with a team that genuinely cares about the students we meet. We love what we do, and we’re always learning and growing right alongside the students we support.

Met Felix

"Hi! I'm Felix, a junior at CU Boulder majoring in Physics, with minors in Applied Math and German. When I’m not studying, I enjoy spending time outdoors backpacking or skiing, and unwinding with a good book or my guitar. Over the years, I’ve discovered that success in math and science isn’t just about memorizing formulas—it’s about learning how to think creatively, systematically, and with persistence. These are the skills I aim to foster in the students I tutor. I'm genuinely excited to support your child’s learning, build their confidence, and help them grow more comfortable navigating challenging material. I'm also always learning myself, and I look forward to growing alongside the students I work with."

Meet Meg

"Hi, I’m Meg! I’ve been tutoring for over a decade, and there’s nothing I love more than helping students feel genuinely confident in math and science. I specialize in AP Physics, AP Calculus, and college-level STEM, but what I really focus on is helping students learn how to think—not just memorize. I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to feel lost in a class that moves too fast or doesn’t explain things in a way that clicks. That’s why my tutoring style is all about patience, clarity, and connection. I work hard to break things down in a way that makes sense, while also helping students build the habits and mindset that lead to real academic growth. Whether we’re reviewing foundational skills or tackling challenging new material, my goal is always the same: to make students feel supported, capable, and ready to take on whatever’s next. I’ve seen how transformative consistent, thoughtful tutoring can be—and I feel lucky every day to be doing this work. When I’m not tutoring, I’m usually out hiking, journaling, reading up on education, or thinking about ways to improve the experience for our students. I also get to work with a small team of brilliant tutors who share my approach and values—and together, we’re here to help students thrive."
